Lawyer shot in leg after alleged dispute with BJP corporator's son in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 20 -- A 30-year-old lawyer was shot and injured late Tuesday night near the gate of Ishwar Sharan Degree College in Prayagraj's Salori area. The victim, Ankit Singh, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
According to police, the shooting allegedly followed an altercation involving the son of a BJP corporator. Police said Ankit and the accused shared a long-standing friendship and were reportedly at a gathering when an argument broke out between them.
Police said the dispute escalated, following which the corporator's son allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired several rounds in quick succession. Ankit reportedly tried to flee but was chased and shot near the college gate. The bullet struck his right leg, causing him to collapse on the road while bleeding heavily.
The sound of gunfire triggered panic among residents in the area. However, by the time Colonelganj police personnel reached the spot, the accused and his associates had allegedly fled.
Police recovered empty cartridge cases from the scene and shifted the injured lawyer to a hospital for treatment. Colonelganj SHO Sanjay Singh said preliminary findings suggest the incident stemmed from a verbal dispute between the two men. He added that the injured lawyer is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
No formal complaint had been lodged by the victim or his family. Police said further legal action would be initiated once a complaint is received and the investigation progresses....
