Last rites of 7 Kheri victims held, dist admn officials assure all help
Lakhimpur Kheri, Aug. 20 -- The last rituals of seven accident victims of Kheri were performed on Wednesday after their bodies reached their villages - six in Bela Tursiya and one in Kishanpur Ajit - in Mohammadi tehsil, late on Tuesday night.
The bodies were brought back in specially arranged vehicles from Bhind in Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile, another accident victim Sarvesh Kumar Rathore (43) of Bela Tursiya village also succumbed to injuries while under treatment at a Gwalior hospital, officials said.
Rathore's body is expected to arrive by Wednesday evening, officials added.
Mohammadi tehsildar Garima Verma, DSP Arun Kumar Singh, kotwali in-charge Umesh Chaurasiya and others reached Bela Tursiya village, which lost seven of its residents besides injuries to 12 others.
The officials called on the grief-stricken families and consoled them.
They facilitated them to arrange material for last rituals besides assuring them of all possible assistance in their hour of grief.
The officials assured of providing CM awas, widows pension, Antyoday ration cards to eligible families besides monetary aid of Rs 2 lakh to the families of each deceased from CM relief fund as announced by UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Kanchan Lal was overwhelmed with grief to see the bodies of his sons Sukhdev and Rajnish while two of his other sons Sompal and Ramakant and grandson Jaykaran aka Pinku returned severely injured, late on Tuesday night.
Amar Singh's wife was inconsolable seeing her husband's body and her son injured. Her relatives had a tough time to console her.
The whole village of Bela Tursiya felt the pangs of pain when six funeral journeys in the village were taken out one after the other.
In Kishanpur Ajit village under Pasgawan police limits, last rituals of Guddu were performed. Guddu's son Ranjit and brother Ramdas were injured in the tragic accident.
Naib tehsildar Mohammadi, local police officers were present in the village. The tragic head-on collision between a pickup van, carrying Kheri labourers on their return journey from MP, and a truck on Bhind- Gwalior national highway in MP late on Monday night had claimed nine lives, left 23 others injured including the truck driver and van driver both from MP.
Among the nine, eight were from Kheri district while one from neighbouring Shahjahanpur district. DEV KANT PANDEY...
