Lakhwar hydel project gains pace after review
Dehradun, April 19 -- The 300 MW Lakhwar multipurpose hydroelectric project on the Yamuna river in Dehradun has gained momentum following a high-level review by Union water resources secretary VL Kantha Rao, officials said.
During a site visit, Rao said the project holds strategic importance in ensuring regulated water supply to states including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi, besides boosting power generation.
He said officials have been directed to adhere to timelines and expedite construction, while reviewing progress of dam works, underground components and related infrastructure.
He also said coordinated execution among stakeholders is essential.
The project, being developed by UJVN Limited, aims to optimise Yamuna water use. Once completed, it is expected to generate around 572 million units of renewable energy annually, while supporting irrigation, drinking water supply and flood control.htc...
