PRAYAGRAJ, June 26 -- Uday Pratap Singh, the father of Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) president and Kunda MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh, and 12 others were on Thursday put under house arrest by the Pratapgarh district administration to ensure a peaceful Moharram in Sheikhpur Ashiq village of Kunda tehsil. Acting on police recommendations, SDM Vachaspati Singh ordered the house arrest of the identified individuals from 5 pm on June 25 until 9 pm (till the end of Ashura procession) on June 26. On Thursday morning, Kunda Kotwali police pasted notices at the gates of Bhadri Kothi, informing Uday Pratap Singh, 90, and others of the restrictions and directing them not to leave their residences during the specified period, confirmed district officials. Uday Pratap Singh is the titular head of the formerly princely state of Bhadri. His son Raghuraj Pratap Singh aka Raja Bhaiya is a 7-time MLA from Kunda assembly seat in Pratapgarh district. The administration's action is linked to the long-standing communal sensitivity surrounding Moharram processions in Sheikhpur Ashiq village. In 2014, Uday Pratap Singh organised a community feast at a temple situated along the route leading to the Karbala ground where Muharram processions culminate. The following year, tensions surfaced between members of two communities when the feast coincided with Muharram observances. Similar concerns arose in 2016, prompting the district administration to prohibit the feast on that particular day. Uday Pratap Singh subsequently approached the courts seeking permission to organise the event, but his petitions were rejected. Since then, authorities have routinely imposed preventive restrictions on certain individuals during Muharram to maintain law and order in the area. Besides Uday Pratap Singh, those placed under house arrest this year include residents of Kunda, Hathigwan, Sheikhpur Ashiq, Benti, Shahpur and other nearby localities....
