LUCKNOW, July 8 -- Two 21-year-old men who were allegedly abducted and forced to transfer Rs.20,000 through UPI were rescued by Lucknow police within hours, with four accused arrested in a swift operation in the BBD area, police said on Tuesday. According to police, the victims, Nirbhay Verma and his friend Abhishek Verma, were kidnapped on Monday by four youths who allegedly confined them and coerced them into transferring Rs.20,000 online before contacting the family. The incident came to light after Nirbhay's uncle, Ram Suresh Chaudhary, a resident of Basti district, approached BBD police and reported that his nephew and his companion had been abducted. Police registered an FIR under Section 140(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and formed multiple teams to trace the victims. "A breakthrough came when police received information about the suspects' presence near Anandi Water Park. The area was cordoned off and four youths were apprehended. During the operation, both victims were rescued safely," said DCP East Deeksha Sharma. The arrested accused were identified as Abhay Chaudhary (19), a native of Basti; Navneet Tiwari alias Golu (20), from Pratapgarh; Piyush Raj (19), from Mau; and Aryan Singh (18), from Gorakhpur. All four were staying in rented accommodation in the BBD area, police said. A five to six-day-old decomposed body of an unidentified man, suspected to be mentally ill, was found on the roof of Balrampur Hospital late on Tuesday night. The body was discovered after employees traced a strong foul smell to the roof of the emergency ward's second floor. Police took custody of the body, sent it for a post-mortem examination and launched efforts to establish the deceased's identity. A 60-year-old hotel owner died after allegedly coming in contact with electrical current from a streetlight pole running into rainwater in BBD area on Monday, police said. The deceased was identified as Santosh Kapoor, who ran Jai Maa Vaishno Bhojanalaya in Charbagh, said police in a statement. Two burglars were caught by residents in Banthra Bazaar while attempting to flee after allegedly breaking into a wholesale trader's house early on Tuesday, Lucknow police said.
