KGMU staff members stage protest over pending issues, apathy
LUCKNOW, May 23 -- Tensions escalated at King George's Medical University on Friday after agitating employees allegedly confined registrar Archana Gahwar inside her office for nearly three hours while pressing for the fulfilment of long-pending demands related to pay scales, promotions and career benefits.
According to employees, a large number of staff members gathered outside the registrar's office around 10 am seeking a formal dialogue over pending service-related issues.
As resentment mounted, employees staged a sit-in protest outside the office and allegedly locked the registrar's room from outside, preventing her from leaving.
Protesters allegedly disconnected the electricity supply to the registrar's chamber during the agitation.
KGMU spokesperson, prof KK Singh denied the confinement of Gahwar inside her office and said that the staff members were taken to the chamber of VC prof Soniya Nityanand; the demands of the employees were accepted and the protest ended.
However, leaders of the employees' body alleged that no satisfactory resolution emerged from the meeting. The agitation also received support from the Uttar Pradesh Sanyukt Karmchari Parishad....
