Keep kin away from power: Gehlot hits at BJP ministers
Jaipur, March 27 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday took a swipe at BJP leaders over controversies involving ministers' sons, advising them to keep their families away from power corridors. He also criticized external affairs minister S Jaishankar over his remarks on Pakistan's mediation in the US-Iran talks, demanding an apology.
Addressing reporters at the Jaipur airport, Gehlot said, "Since the government has been formed, the children of the ministers are making controversies. Everybody, including the CM and deputy CM, must keep their families away from the power corridors. It will spoil them otherwise. They should rather be taught some good morals. They will tarnish the image of the government if they are kept close to the power."
His comment comes months after a viral video showed the minor son of the deputy CM Prem Chand Bairwa driving a modified open jeep on Jaipur's Amber Road, escorted by a government vehicle with a beacon. The incident led to a Rs.7,000 fine for traffic violations. Meanwhile, Dhananjay Khinvsar, the son of the health minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar, was also removed from the Rajasthan Cricket Academy (RCA) after he was found holding dual positions in Jodhpur and Nagaur cricket association, violating the guidelines of the RCA.
Taking a dig to the law and order situation, Gehlot also said, "At least five to seven murders have occurred in just one month. These murders were committed as acts of robbery and hooliganism. There is no law and order left in Rajasthan. The atrocities, injustice, and oppression taking place in villages today are unimaginable. We don't even get to know about many cases."
"We had earlier made it mandatory to file an FIR immediately in every such case, but the BJP government has abolished it. The actual situation remains obscured. They are manipulating data to ensure fewer cases are reported, a well-planned scheme," Gehlot alleged.
The former chief minister also criticised Pakistan for offering mediation with in US-Iran talks despite their own poor position in the global platform.
"However, it is unfortunate how our minister of external affairs S Jaishankar mocked Pakistan's offer for this mediation by calling them a 'dalaal' nation. I believe that no foreign minister should use such language against any country. I don't know what dalaali means. I believe it was a slip of tongue. If so, that's a different matter. He should feel sorry, otherwise I believe he should face severe criticism within the country," he said.
Reacting to the comments, BJP spokesperson Ram Lal Sharma said, "Gehlot is speaking from his own experience as his own son(Vaibhav Gehlot) also used to interfere in the administrative work and tarnish their image. He also contested in two general elections but failed to win"....
