Ramnaresh, a resident of Chhatturpur under Manjhanpur Kotwali limits, sustained two bullet injuries: one to the chest and another to the back. According to police, the accused son fled the scene while brandishing a country-made pistol.
Ramnaresh had been employed as a sanitation worker attached to the Collectorate for eight years, handling work at the integrated grievance redressal system desk for nearly four years. He lived with his elder brother Rakesh while his family stayed in the village.
Frequent family disputes over financial issues and failure to support household expenses and children's education had created tension between Ramnaresh and his family members, police sources said.
On Monday morning, an argument broke out between Ramnaresh and his son Rahul. Despite the dispute, the two left together on a motorcycle for Manjhanpur. At around 10 am near a private school on Dhata Road, Rahul allegedly asked his father to stop the bike and shot him in the chest before firing another shot into his back.
Bystanders attempted to apprehend the accused, but he escaped after brandishing the firearm and fled on foot towards Mavai village. Police from Manjhanpur Kotwali shifted the critically injured Ramnaresh to the medical college. Due to his deteriorating condition, he was referred to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police registered a case following a written complaint lodged by Rakesh. SP Satyanarayan Prajapat confirmed the incident, stating that the victim died during treatment at SRN Hospital. "The accused will be arrested soon. Police teams are conducting intensive raids," he said.
