Kashi's artisanal heritage mesmerises BRICS delegates
VARANASI, June 7 -- A high-level delegation comprising representatives from the 11 member nations of the BRICS India 2026 Culture Working Group (CWG) concluded their visit to Kashi on Saturday with a deep appreciation for India's vibrant craft sector. Following the conclusion of the second BRICS Culture Working Group meet in Varanasi on Friday, the delegates toured the Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) and Crafts Museum, where the city's renowned artistry left them captivated.
The delegation, which included representatives from Brazil, China, Indonesia, Iran and South Africa, was welcomed at the TFC by officials from the office of the development commissioner (handicrafts) under the ministry of textiles, alongside state administrative representatives.
During the visit, the international guests toured the crafts museum, exploring a collection that highlights the breadth of Indian handicrafts and handlooms. An immersive audio-visual presentation on Varanasi's cultural traditions and craft heritage was a highlight of the experience.
To commemorate the visit, the delegates were presented with tokens featuring GI-tagged 'Gulabi Meenakari' peacock figurines and traditional wooden block-printed, wax-filled diya-batti sets....
