Kanwar Yatra: Only vegetarian food to be served on route in Gkp
GORAKHPUR, July 27 -- The district administration and the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) have stepped up preparations for the upcoming Savan month and Kanwar Yatra scheduled to begin on July 30.
As part of the arrangements, the FSDA has launched a drive to distribute mandatory QR code stickers to eateries located along the Kanwar Yatra route, enabling devotees to instantly verify the ownership, licence and registration details of food establishments.
In addition, only vegetarian food will be served at railway and bus stations besides at eateries along the pilgrimage route.
The district administration has also identified around 50 Lord Shiva temples and night shelters to accommodate Kanwariyas during the yatra.
Additional commissioner (food safety) Dr Sudhir Kumar Singh said every food business operator on the Kanwar route must prominently display the QR code sticker and strictly maintain hygiene.
Displaying rate lists has also been made mandatory, while inspection teams are conducting regular checks to ensure food quality and remove expired or unsafe products from sale.
He said the initiative will ensure that shops serving non-vegetarian food cannot conceal their identity or the nature of their business as ownership and establishment details will be available through the mandatory QR code.
Authorities said the measures are intended to help devotees make informed choices while ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.
Meanwhile, the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation has deployed sanitation teams at around 50 Shiva temples and other religious sites, including Mahadev Jharkhandi, Mukteshwar Nath and Basiya Deeh temples. Zonal sanitation officer Akhilesh Kumar said besides temples, special sanitation drives will also be carried out at night shelters, bus stations and other locations frequented by Kanwariyas....
