KAILASH PILGRIMS CAN CARRY UP TO 20 KG ESSENTIALS INTO TIBET: KMVN
Pithoragarh, June 23 -- Pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through the Lipulekh route this year will be allowed to carry up to 20 kilograms of essential goods into Tibet after entering Chinese territory, officials said.
Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) general manager Manish Kumar Singh said the Ministry of External Affairs permits pilgrims to carry an additional 5 kilograms of common luggage per pilgrim as group luggage. Officials said each batch of pilgrims will be accompanied by a five-member service team comprising one doctor and four cooks. They added that the entire team will have to return from any point of the yatra if advised by the medical officer.
The first batch of pilgrims, which will leave from New Delhi on June 30, is scheduled to reach the Dharchula base camp in Pithoragarh district on July 5 to stay overnight before proceeding towards the international border. Pilgrims will also be allowed to carry essential medicines for up to 20 different ailments while travelling through Tibet, officials said.
A four-member team from the Ministry of External Affairs, led by an under-secretary, is expected to arrive at Pithoragarh on June 25 to review preparations for the pilgrimage within Indian territory....
