LUCKNOW, April 17 -- A junior assistant posted in the child development services and nutrition department was allegedly caught accepting a Rs.15,000 bribe at the Bhanwapur block office in Siddharthnagar on Thursday, in a trap set by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Corruption Organisation (ACO). The accused, identified as Manish Kumar, was arrested by the Basti unit of the ACO following a complaint alleging that he had demanded money to facilitate the appointment of a woman as an Anganwadi assistant, officials said. According to the anti-corruption unit, the complaint was filed by Ravindra Kaushal, a resident of Patkhauli Nankar village under Itwa police station in Siddharthnagar district. He alleged that the official had demanded a bribe to secure the appointment of his wife as an Anganwadi sahayika. Acting on the complaint, a trap team raided the child development services and nutrition department office at Bhanwapur block on Thursday. Officials said Manish Kumar, a resident of Kurmaul village under Dhanghata police station in Siddharthnagar, was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a Rs.15,000 bribe.
