Lucknow, July 14 -- The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on 'One Nation, One Election', chaired by Lok Sabha MP PP Chaudhary, held a series of consultations on Monday with the state's top bureaucracy, officers of public sector undertakings, banks and the legal fraternity. The JPC members discussed various aspects of simultaneous polls with the chief secretary, home and finance secretary, director general of police and the chief electoral officer. The officers apprised the committee of administrative views on the subject and plausible outcomes for governance due to the implementation of simultaneous elections. The heads of various government departments elaborated on the impacts of multiple election cycles and repeated invocation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) on the working of their respective departments. After exhaustive discussions with the state administration, the JPC members sought clarifications on various issues and expressed their views on the facts presented before them. The heads of government departments provided the clarifications sought by the JPC. The committee also granted them extra time to come up with empirical data and studies on the issues raised for a better understanding. The JPC members also interacted with top officers of public sector undertakings and banks, including National Fertilizers Limited, Central Bank of India, Food Corporation of India, NAFED, Northern Railways, RVNL, Coal India Limited and Powergrid. Representatives of PSUs and banks expressed their views and provided clarifications sought by the JPC. In the final session, the JPC members interacted with members of the legal fraternity, including a former advocate general, members of the Bar, and senior advocates. On Tuesday, the committee will interact with members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature, the state political executive, and leaders of national and regional political parties. It will also meet representatives of trade and industry bodies, including the Indian Industries Association, Merchant Chambers of Uttar Pradesh, Laghu Udyog Bharati, EXIM Bank and the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development, before calling on the governor....
