MEERUT, July 13 -- Thieves allegedly decamped with jewellery worth around Rs.10 lakh and cash received as wedding gifts during the wedding of the daughter of BJP leader Ashok Babli, a representative of MP Arun Govil, at a Regency Marriage Home under the Hapur Dehat police station limits in the early hours of Sunday. According to information, the wedding ceremony was underway and guests were moving around the venue as various rituals were being performed. Taking advantage of the bustle, the thieves allegedly broke into a locked room where jewellery and cash had been kept and fled with the valuables. The accused allegedly gained entry by breaking a window of the room. The theft came to light on Sunday morning when family members entered the room and found the valuables missing. According to the family, the stolen bag contained jewellery worth approximately Rs 10 lakh, along with cash received as kanyadaan and other wedding gifts. Superintendent of police Vineet Bhatnagar said police launched an investigation after receiving information about the theft. CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the marriage venue is being examined to identify the suspects and trace their movements. Police have detained several employees of the marriage venue for questioning as part of the investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the theft....
