JE suspended over alleged bribe demand
Lucknow, April 28 -- A junior engineer posted at the 33/11 kV Tal Katora substation has been suspended after allegations of demanding a bribe from a consumer seeking a 24 kVA commercial electricity connection.
The suspended engineer has been identified as Nilesh Singh. The case came to light after a video was circulated on social media. The video allegedly showed the official asking for money and threatening the applicant through repeated phone calls. The complainant, Raj Kumar Verma, had applied for the connection through the state's online portal on April 9.
During an inquiry, officials found prima facie evidence of misconduct and violation of service rules. The superintending engineer (technical) ordered Singh's immediate suspension. The order cited negligence, harassment of consumers and violation of the UP Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1956. Madhyanchal discom MD Riya Kejriwal said strict action would be taken against anyone involved in corrupt practices....
