JCB operator killed in Ghurpur; accused arrested
Prayagraj, June 4 -- A 32-year-old JCB operator was allegedly murdered in Bhita village under the Ghurpur police station area in the early hours of Wednesday, leading to protests and a temporary blockade of the Prayagraj-Rewa Highway.
The victim, Rajesh Kumar Prajapati, had returned home late on Tuesday after work and was sleeping on a stone platform outside his house.
Police said his neighbour, Chandan Bhartiya, allegedly attacked him with a stone while he was asleep and fled from the spot.
Police suspect the murder was linked to an ongoing dispute over a plot of land purchased by the victim's family.
The body was found around 4 am, triggering protests by family members and villagers. The family initially refused to allow police to remove the body and demanded action against the accused.
After an FIR was registered, the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Following the post-mortem, villagers blocked the Prayagraj-Rewa Highway for about an hour, demanding financial assistance, a firearm licence for the family, the arrest of the accused and demolition of his house.
The blockade was lifted after police assurances.
Police said an FIR has been registered on the complaint of the victim's father. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway....
