LUCKNOW, Aug. 28 -- With Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav's "chavanni ko rupaya bana diya" jibe apparently at former ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leading to resentment among sections of Jat voters in western Uttar Pradesh, RLD president and Union minister Jayant Chaudhary is set to address party workers in Lucknow on August 30. The timing of Chaudhary's Lucknow visit is significant as the RLD, a party traditionally identified with the Jat community and its political influence in western UP, seeks to expand its social base beyond the region. The remark has also provided an opening for the RLD to position itself as a defender of the community's political relevance. Chaudhary, who was an SP ally during the 2022 UP assembly polls, will attend an organisational meeting at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomti Nagar. The party has described the meeting as an organisational exercise ahead of the 2027 polls but the RLD chief's address is being keenly watched against the backdrop of the latest political exchange. "We cannot say what our national president will say, but you will agree that the 'chavanni' remark by the SP president was not in good taste. If the national president addresses the issue in Lucknow, party workers will follow whatever he says," RLD national general secretary Anil Dubey said....
