Jauhar University razing order: Students' protest enters Day 3
MEERUT, July 21 -- Students of the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur continued their indefinite sit-in protest against demolition orders issued for 38 buildings on the campus for the third consecutive day on Monday.
A large number of students assembled at the university's main gate, raising slogans and reiterating that the protest would continue until their demands were met.
The protesting students are demanding the immediate withdrawal of the district administration's demolition order and an end to the alleged harassment of students entering the university campus. They said the protest would remain peaceful but would not end until both issues were addressed.
The demonstration took an emotional turn when Iqra, an LLB student from Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, appealed to the President of India to intervene and prevent the demolition of the university's buildings. Addressing fellow protesters, she said the fate of thousands of students was tied to the institution and demolishing the 38 buildings would jeopardise their education and future....
