Jaipur woman held for alleged links with Pak-based terror outfit
Jaipur, June 23 -- The Rajasthan Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested a woman from Jaipur on charges of allegedly maintaining contact with members of Pakistan-based terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed and engaging in activities deemed prejudicial to national security.
The accused, identified as Babita Dharkad alias Khadija, is originally from Gangapur City and was residing in Jaipur at the time of her arrest. According to ATS officials, she was taken into custody on Sunday following specific intelligence inputs regarding her suspected association with anti-national elements operating from across the border.
A senior ATS official said that during preliminary interrogation, investigators found several aspects of her activities to be suspicious. A forensic examination of her mobile phone reportedly revealed the use of two SIM cards and a Facebook account containing objectionable content as well as links to several foreign-based profiles.
Investigators also found that a number of profiles connected to her social media account allegedly featured content related to extremist organisations, including symbols and material associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed. Some accounts reportedly displayed photographs resembling armed militants and content promoting radical ideology.
The ATS further claimed that an examination of her WhatsApp activity revealed communication with multiple Pakistani phone numbers and other foreign contacts. Officials said several Pakistani numbers were found in her contact list, some of which are suspected to have links with terror operatives.
According to sources associated with the investigation, the woman told interrogators that she had converted to Islam after being influenced by a Pakistan-based religious cleric during phone conversations. Investigators are also probing claims that individuals allegedly handling her from Pakistan were planning to facilitate her travel there.
Based on the evidence collected so far, the ATS has registered a case against the accused under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The woman was produced before a court, which remanded her to ATS custody until June 27 for further interrogation. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to determine the nature and extent of her alleged links with Pakistani contacts and extremist networks.
The ATS is also examining her digital communications, social media activity and financial transactions to ascertain whether any broader network or recruitment module may be involved....
