Kanpur, May 20 -- An Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) constable on Monday reached the police commissioner's office carrying his mother's amputated hand in an ice container, alleging medical negligence by a private hospital and inaction by police. Vikas Singh, a resident of Maharajpur, claimed his mother developed a severe infection during treatment at a private hospital where she was admitted on May 13 for breathing problems. He alleged the infection spread rapidly, forcing doctors at another hospital to amputate her hand on May 17 to prevent further complications. Singh said he spent three days visiting police offices seeking registration of an FIR but received no action. The incident caused a commotion at the commissionerate, prompting senior officers to intervene. Police said the commissioner directed the chief medical officer to conduct an inquiry. Officials said strict action would follow if negligence is established. Singh's mother is now stable, according to family members. Assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Amarnath said, "The ITBP jawan is from ITBP Maharajpur. His mother was ill with an issue with her hand, and he took her to a private hospital. When she did not get relief even after treatment at the hospital, he shifted her to another hospital. During treatment in this hospital, such a situation arose during treatment that her hand had to be amputated. A three-member team has been constituted by the CMO for a probe into the matter. If negligence is found, an FIR will be registered." (With agency inputs)...
