LUCKNOW, Sept. 2 -- Isabella Thoburn College celebrated its 125th Founder's Day on Tuesday, honouring the legacy and vision of its founder, Isabella Thoburn, a pioneer of women's education in India. The programme began with a visit to the Nishatganj cemetery, where officiating principal Major Neerja Masih, along with faculty members and students, paid homage to the founder and laid a wreath at her grave. Later, at the auditorium, the college choir sang Thoburn's favourite hymns, Make Me a Blessing and Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. The highlight was a skit by the BEd department tracing Isabella Thoburn's remarkable journey. A special segment was the felicitation of five noted alumnae for their professional achievements and contributions to society. They were medical practitioner Dr Snehlata Tewarson; retired teacher at St Agnes Loreto School Sandhya Tiwari Roberts; pro-vice-chancellor of Era University Prof Farzana Mahdi; officiating principal of IT College and retired Army officer Major Neerja Masih; and acting principal of IT Intermediate College Karuna Masih. The alumnae spoke about the college's role in shaping their personalities. They also encouraged students to live up to the motto, "We Receive to Give".
