Interstate smuggler held with smack worth Rs 1cr
PRAYAGRAJ, July 12 -- A joint team of the Narcotics Task Force (NTF) and the Industrial Area Police arrested an alleged interstate drug trafficker on Saturday and seized 515 grams of smack, estimated to be worth over Rs.1 crore in the illegal market. The accused was apprehended near Saraswati Hi-Tech City following a tip-off about drug trafficking activities in the area.
According to police, a joint team of the NTF (Prayagraj Crime Branch) and the Industrial Area police laid a trap near Saraswati Hi-Tech City as part of a coordinated operation. During surveillance, the team spotted a suspicious individual. When the police approached him, the suspect allegedly tried to flee but was chased down and apprehended.
During questioning, the accused identified himself as Alok Tripathi, a resident of Naraini in Banda district, under the jurisdiction of Kidwai Nagar police station.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Tripathi allegedly sourced the contraband through truck routes operating between Imphal, Manipur, and Uttar Pradesh, and supplied smack across several districts of Uttar Pradesh as well as other states.
Police records further showed that Tripathi had previously been arrested by the Delhi Police's Rohini police station in 2020 in connection with a narcotics-related case.
