PRAYAGRAJ, May 25 -- Police in Prayagraj have busted an inter-state vehicle theft gang and arrested four members, including the alleged kingpin, recovering seven stolen vehicles during the operation. Acting on information, during a drive against wanted criminals, Nawabganj police intercepted the gang and arrested its main accused, Krishna Kumar alias Bachcha Yadav along with three accomplices. During interrogation, police found that the gang used minors to steal vehicles, which were later modified by altering engine and chassis numbers before being sold to unsuspecting buyers. The recovered vehicles include three Boleros, two Scorpios, one auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle. Investigations revealed that several of the vehicles had been stolen from other states, including Madhya Pradesh, pointing to the gang's inter-state network. SHO of Nawabganj policed station Pankaj Awasthi said the gang had been active for a long time and was involved in multiple thefts across states. A case has been registered under the Gangster Act, and further investigation is underway. A 28-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband in the Bamrauli area of Prayagraj on Saturday night. Police said the accused is absconding and efforts are being made to arrest him. The victim, Shabnam, was a resident of Pirauna village in Phulpur. She had been married to Shah Alam for nearly ten years and the couple had two children. According to police, Shah Alam often suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship, which frequently led to arguments between them. On Saturday night, another dispute reportedly broke out between the couple. During the argument, Shah Alam allegedly strangled Shabnam to death. Police informed the woman's family about the incident on Sunday morning. Her brother later reached the spot with other relatives and filed a written complaint. A post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was manual strangulation.
