influencer who discussed gender issues gunned down in Punjab
Amritsar, Oct. 4 -- Punjabi social media influencer and makeup artist Madhusudan Sandhu, popularly known as Mad Sandhu, was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne men on Loharka Road in Amritsar on Saturday evening, police said.
The attack took place around 6pm when Sandhu visited a car-wash shop. "Around two to three rounds were fired, with an eyewitness saying that the influencer was shot at a close range," said Siri Vennela, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) City-2.
Sandhu collapsed on the road and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police formed special teams to identify the assailants and examine CCTV footage. "Our teams have got crucial leads, and we will nab the killers soon," Vennela said, adding that the motive was being investigated.
Sandhu had 226,000 Instagram followers and was known for his work as a fashion stylist, makeup artist and digital creator.
He frequently discussed the Punjabi entertainment industry and LGBTQ+ and gender-related issues, and also acted in the Punjabi film Oye Bhole Oye.
However, he often faced criticism and backlash on social media over his content style and fashion choices. A few months ago, a Nihang Sikh had objected to his content and his clothing and told him that his videos would have a negative impact on youth.
Police are investigating all possible angles, including personal enmity, extortion and hostility over his social media presence....
