Infant critical after brutal attack; accused arrested
VARANASI, June 8 -- A one-month-old infant girl was left critically injured after a man allegedly snatched her from her grandfather's lap and slammed her onto the ground twice in the Vanvasi Musahar basti in Akatha village. The incident occurred on Saturday evening around 6 pm, police said.
According to the family, the infant's grandfather, Pappu, was sitting outside their home holding the child when the accused, identified as Vikas Yadav, suddenly snatched the baby and slammed her onto the ground. When bystanders attempted to intervene, the accused reportedly picked the infant up and repeated the assault.
The victim was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Srinagar Colony, where she remains under medical care. The child's father, Rajesh, works as a statue maker at Haveliya intersection, and her mother, Renu, is a homemaker.
Following the incident, a crowd gathered at the scene, leading to a blockade that was cleared after Sarnath station house officer (SHO) Pankaj Tripathi arrived to pacify the area.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Sarnath, Vidush Saxena, confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody.
A case has been registered based on the family's complaint, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing....
