In Auraiya, prisoner flees moving bus; two constables suspended
KANPUR, Oct. 9 -- A prisoner being taken to Etawah district jail made a daring escape by jumping out of the window of a Roadways bus as it slowed down near the head post office in Auraiya on Thursday evening. The prisoner, who was being escorted by two Auraiya police constables, ran towards the railway station. Despite a chase and an extensive search, he remained untraced late into the night, said officials.
Following the incident, the two constables had been suspended.
The prisoner was identified as Bullet Khan alias Nadeem, 25, a resident of Vidhi Chand locality in Auraiya district. He had been arrested by Auraiya police in connection with a case and was being brought to Etawah jail.
The bus had crossed Shastri chauraha when Nadeem suddenly jumped out through the bus window. One of the constables escorting him immediately ran after him, but Nadeem managed to get away.
The constable informed the Civil Lines police, following which police teams rushed to the area and launched a search.
Additional SP (Auraiya) Alok Mishra said teams had been formed to trace Khan. "Teams are conducting raids at several places," he said.
Police examined CCTV footage from several shops near the railway station as well as cameras installed at the RPF post. Footage from a shop on the road opposite the post office showed Nadeem running towards the railway station.
Sources said state police chief Rajiv Krishna took a serious view of the escape and pulled up Auraiya police officers on Thursday....
