Kanpur, Aug. 27 -- Police have busted an illegal arms manufacturing unit allegedly being run from a house in Motiyari village in Naraini and arrested two men, recovering six country-made pistols, two semi-finished pistols and two cartridges. The arrested men have been identified as Devi Deen, a resident of Ramnai village in Panna district's Madhya Pradesh, and Ram Swaroop alias Mulla of Motiyari. Police also seized tools and equipment allegedly being used to manufacture the firearms.Circle officer Praveen Kumar said the raid was conducted late on August 25 after police received information while checking suspicious persons and vehicles. The unit was being operated from a house on the outskirts of Motiyari village, he said. During questioning, the two men allegedly told police that they manufactured country-made pistols at the house and sold them in Banda and neighbouring districts for Rs 7,000-8,000 each. Police are now trying to identify others allegedly involved in the illegal arms trade. Devi Deen has four cases registered against him at Naraini police station, including an attempt-to-murder case and an Arms Act case registered in 2010.
