Illegal firearms racket busted, seven arrested
VARANASI, June 17 -- A joint team comprising the Cholapur police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Varanasi Commissionerate arrested seven members of a gang involved in selling illegal firearms and ammunition near the Katari block on Tuesday. Police recovered a large quantity of illegal weapons, cartridges, and a stolen motorcycle from their possession.
Deputy commissioner of police, Varuna Zone, Pramod Kumar stated that the arrested individuals have been identified as Akhilesh alias Monu Rajbhar, Arun Rajbhar, Himanshu Kumar alias Sunny, Abhash Singh, Vishal Singh, Aniket Chauhan, and Naman Mishra alias Astishu, all residents of different areas of Varanasi.
Assistant commissioner of police, Sarnath, Vidush Saxena said, recoveries from the accused include a .32 bore revolver with six cartridges, a 7.65mm pistol with two cartridges, a .315 bore country-made pistol (tamancha) with three cartridges, a 9mm pistol with two cartridges, a stolen motorcycle, and six mobile phones of various brands.
The ACP said that during interrogation, the accused confessed that they kept illegal pistols, country-made guns, and ammunition for the thrill of it. They used these weapons to intimidate people while committing theft, snatching, and robbery. Additionally, they sold firearms for a profit. They had gathered specifically to sell these weapons....
