PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 3 -- After concluding a four-day excavation at a house in Baraipur Ramnagar village under Nawabganj police station limits here, the Income Tax Department has shortlisted 19 family members and close associates of brothers Rajesh Yadav and Rakesh Yadav for questioning in connection with the recovery of Rs 3.2 crore in cash from three blue drums buried beneath their residence. According to officials, the statements of both brothers were recorded on Sunday following the completion of the search operation, which ended in the early hours of the day without any further cash recovery. However, investigators recovered several valuable items and financial records, prompting the department to widen its probe. Sources said six relatives have been found to be closely associated with the Yadav brothers and are believed to have assisted them in purchasing around 22 bigha of land over the past five years. Investigators are examining those transactions as part of the probe. During the search, officials also recovered several bank passbooks and documents related to investments in insurance policies, mutual funds and shares. The Income Tax team excavated five rooms, the courtyard and portions of several walls during the operation after cash worth Rs 3.2 crore was unearthed from three drums buried underground at the property.
