Hurt by embezzlement charges, Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan secy writes to CM Yogi, seeks probe
AGRA, June 22 -- Hurt by allegations of embezzlement of devotees' donations at Mathura's Shri Krishna Janmasthan temple levelled by Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas president Dinesh Sharma alias Falahari Baba, Sri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan secretary Kapil Sharma has written to chief minister Yogi Adityanath seeking a probe by a competent authority and urging that the findings be made public to maintain the sanctity of Shri Krishna Janmasthan and the credibility of those serving it.
The letter comes days after Falahari Baba sought a CBI inquiry into alleged embezzlement of cash and jewellery donations at the temple. He had written a letter in blood to the chief minister, claiming large-scale financial irregularities in the management of devotees' offerings.
According to Falahari Baba, the letter was dispatched to the chief minister earlier this week. He alleged that CCTV cameras are switched off when donation boxes are opened and claimed that office-bearers of the temple management committee had amassed huge wealth and purchased properties in neighbouring states over the past 15 years.
Falahari Baba, who is among the petitioners seeking the removal of the Shahi Eidgah mosque adjoining Shri Krishna Janmasthan, alleged that the handling of donations lacked transparency and warranted an independent investigation.
Responding to the allegations, Kapil Sharma said in his letter that he had been serving Shri Krishna Janmasthan for the past 27 years and that the accusations had caused him deep anguish.
"The allegation accusing me of amassing property worth Rs.1,000 crore is not only directed at me but is also a mischievous attempt to tarnish my dedication and commitment. These charges have been made without any proof or evidence, which compelled me to break my silence," Sharma wrote.
He said he had never drawn any salary while serving as secretary of the Sansthan and had often spent his own resources in carrying out his responsibilities.
Seeking an impartial examination of the allegations, Sharma said a fair probe by a competent authority would be in the interest of crores of devotees who have faith in Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and those associated with its management.
"The truth should come before the public. A transparent inquiry will remove doubts and strengthen the trust of devotees," he said.
Shri Krishna Janmasthan, believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna, is located in the heart of Mathura city. The temple complex has also been at the centre of a long-running legal dispute, with multiple petitions seeking the removal of the adjoining Shahi Eidgah mosque and the construction of a grand temple at the site....
