LUCKNOW, June 2 -- Police teams have launched a manhunt for a city-based social media influencer and his family members after the body of his 24-year-old wife, married barely six months ago, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in the Saadatganj area on Sunday. While the victim's family alleged that she was murdered over dowry demands, police on Monday said the post-mortem examination confirmed death due to hanging. "The post-mortem examination has confirmed death due to hanging," deputy commissioner of police (West) Kamlesh Dixit told Hindustan Times. According to officials, police have registered a case against the husband and his family members under sections 80(2) and 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, following a complaint given by the deceased's family. A team has been formed to trace and arrest the accused, who are said to be absconding. "The accused will be arrested soon," the DCP said. The accused husband is a social media influencer with a substantial online following. According to police sources, two Instagram accounts linked to him have around 7.94 lakh and 5.51 lakh followers respectively, while his YouTube channel has over 2.37 lakh subscribers. Several of his videos and reels have garnered millions of views. The deceased was also active on social media and had more than 2,000 followers on Instagram. Investigators noted that a reel was uploaded from the husband's social media account just two days ago, around the time of the woman's death. Her family alleged that soon after the marriage, she was subjected to harassment by her husband and in-laws over demands for additional dowry, including a car. The FIR was lodged by the woman's uncle, a resident of Kanpur, who alleged that the persistent harassment ultimately led to her death. The complainant accused the husband and other in-laws of killing the woman over dowry demands and attempting to pass off the incident as a suicide.
