HSRP deadline ends today; crackdown from June 1
LUCKNOW, May 31 -- Vehicle owners in Lucknow have one last day to install High Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) as the traffic police's month-long awareness and compliance campaign ends on Sunday.
From June 1, the traffic police will launch a stricter enforcement drive against vehicles operating without the mandatory tamper-proof number plates, deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Raveena Tyagi said.
Launched on May 2, the campaign focused on encouraging vehicle owners to adopt HSRP through social media outreach, awareness messages and on-ground drives. While police largely emphasised compliance during the month-long exercise, officials have made it clear that the approach will now shift to enforcement.
The HSRP mandate applies across vehicle categories, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers, commercial vehicles, transport vehicles, government vehicles and private vehicles registered before the system was introduced.
Traffic officials said violators may face challans, while vehicle seizure could also be initiated in applicable cases.
Police say HSRP plays a crucial role in strengthening road safety and law enforcement. The plates come with security features that make them difficult to duplicate or tamper with, helping authorities identify vehicles, trace stolen automobiles and improve surveillance through camera-based monitoring systems.
