History-sheeter shot near his Prayagraj home; two held
PRAYAGRAJ, May 22 -- A 28-year-old history-sheeter, Saksham Sharma, was shot dead near his home in Mutthiganj on Thursday morning, police said. Two accused have been arrested and the weapon used in the crime recovered.
Police said Sharma was lured out of his Malviya Nagar residence around 7 am after receiving a phone call. Moments later, two men on a scooter opened fire at him, shooting him five times in quick succession before fleeing. Family members rushed him to Beli Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Family members alleged that Sharma was scheduled to record his statement with the ACP regarding the earlier case on Thursday but was killed before he could do so.
Based on CCTV footage and statements from family members, police arrested Vimal Panda, a history-sheeter from Attarsuiya and Akash Arora alias 'Bhola Punjabi' from Malviya Nagar. The pistol used in the killing was seized. CCTV footage reportedly captured the two accused carrying out the shooting.
ACP (Attarsuiya) Nikita Srivastava said the killing stemmed from an old rivalry. During questioning, the accused revealed that tensions had escalated after an incident at Daraganj Ghat on Wednesday night, where Sharma allegedly set fire to a kiosk belonging to Bhola Punjabi.
An FIR has been registered based on a complaint filed by Sharma's mother, Anju Sharma, naming five accused: Vimal Panda, his wife Shubhi Sharma, his brother Kamal Sharma, Akash Arora alias Bhola Punjabi, and Lallu Dhuriya. Police confirmed the two shooters are in custody and further investigation is underway.
Sharma was listed as a history-sheeter at the Mutthiganj police station. He had previously survived a gun attack on March 13 near Chaudhary Garden, where he and an associate suffered gunshot injuries. An FIR for that previous case had also been filed against the same accused....
