History-sheeter flees as kin confront police team
PRAYAGRAJ, April 13 -- A history-sheeter managed to flee after his family members allegedly obstructed police personnel who had arrived for his routine verification in Lilapur police station area in Pratapgarh on Sunday.
The accused, Abdul Haqiq, a resident of Nagapur Tilauri village, has cases related to murder, robbery and theft pending against him. Around 8.30 am, three constables reached his house to carry out routine verification, but learnt that he was at a nearby village, supervising construction work.
When the police team reached there and tried to take him to police station, his family members allegedly confronted them. Amid the commotion, Haqiq escaped from the spot. Following the incident, constable Babulal Yadav lodged a complaint against Haqiq and his family members for obstructing public servants in discharge of official duties. SHO Baikunthnath Pandey said the police team had gone only for routine verification. He confirmed that a case related to obstruction of official work had been registered.
Police on Sunday arrested a father and son, both pharmaceutical traders, in connection with the illegal purchase and sale of banned codeine-based cough syrup near Pajava Crossing in the Atarsuiya police station area in Prayagraj.
The arrested accused were identified as Vinod Verma and his son Sanskar Verma, residents of the Pajava Crossing locality. FIRs had earlier been registered against them in Prayagraj, Sonbhadra and Mirzapur districts.
According to police officials, Sonbhadra police had been searching for the duo for their alleged involvement in the illegal trade of codeine cough syrup. SHO, Atarsuiya police station, Ram Murti Yadav said the accused were handed over to Sonbhadra police for further investigation.
A 17-year-old Class 10 student allegedly died by suicide at his home in Kaladanda Himmatganj area under Khuldabad police station in Prayagraj late on Saturday night, police said.
His body was found hanging inside a room around 11 pm. Family members rushed him to a hospital but doctors declared him dead. The police said no suicide note was recovered and the reason for his extreme step was yet to be ascertained.
olice arrested two people for their alleged involvement in illicit flesh trade in Varanasi, police said on Sunday. The accused identified as Santosh Kumar of Varanasi and Shamsher Ali of Chandauli were arrested from two different locations, said a police officer. The cop said their involvement in the illicit flesh trade came to the fore during interrogation with the two accused, including a woman and a man, who were arrested on April 10. A minor was also rescued from the spot.
Station officer, Sarnath, inspector Pankaj Tripathi said a case had been registered against the accused under section 96 of the BNS and relevant sections of the Pocso Act. Further probe into the matter is under way.
A 20-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a train beneath the Galuabad overbridge within the Karchhana area.
The deceased has been identified as Shadab, resident of Galuabad village. According to reports, Shadab was standing near the railway tracks and talking on his mobile phone when the accident occurred. The accident was so severe that he died on the spot.
Upon receiving information, station in-charge of Industrial Police Station Kamlesh Patel, arrived at the scene and sent the body for postmortem. He said that, prima facie, the accident appears to have occurred due to negligence....
