Kanpur, June 3 -- A 30-year-old man arrested for allegedly threatening his wife with a country-made pistol told police and reporters that he wanted to experience life inside a central jail, officials said. Komal Singh, a resident of Aheripur village in Etawah's Bakewar area, was arrested on Monday after a complaint that he had pointed a pistol at his wife during a domestic dispute. Police recovered a country-made firearm and two live cartridges from his possession. During a medical examination before being produced in court, Singh claimed he had long been curious about life in a central prison. He said he had previously been lodged in Orai jail on three occasions and wanted to see how a central jail differed. Singh, who drives a tractor used for transporting sand and gravel, also claimed he was unconcerned about being sent to jail. He attributed frequent disputes at home to the couple being childless and alleged that the recovered weapon had been in his family for generations. Police said these claims were being verified. Investigators are examining the origin of the weapon and whether it was used in any other offence. SHO Bakewar Vipin Malik said Singh was booked under relevant provisions related to illegal possession of arms and criminal intimidation. A court later remanded him to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway....
