Mussoorie, July 28 -- Monsoon intensified across Uttarakhand on Monday, with several parts of the state receiving light to heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours till 8.30 am. Jauljibi in Pithoragarh district recorded the highest rainfall of 59.5 mm, while over 30 roads, including village roads, were blocked by landslides, mudslides and boulder falls, officials said on Monday. According to rainfall data available until 8.30 am on Monday, Didihat in Pithoragarh recorded 25.5 mm of rain, while Pratapnagar in Tehri district received 22 mm. In Rudraprayag district, Jakholi recorded 13 mm, Rudraprayag 10 mm and Ukhimath 2 mm. The tourist town of Mussoorie in Dehradun district received rainfall ranging between 16 mm and 1 mm. In Chamoli district, Pokhari recorded 9.5 mm, Chamoli town 6.5 mm, Pandukeshwar 6 mm and Ghat 5 mm. In Pauri Garhwal, Gau- char received 13 mm, Yamkeshwar 5.5 mm, while Srinagar and Thalisain recorded 1 mm each. Between 8.30 am and 1 pm on Monday, Jauljibi received another 23 mm of rain, followed by Didihat with 13.5 mm. The border area of Pancheshwar recorded 2 mm at the same time. In view of the orange alert issued by the Meteorological Department, the Bageshwar district administration declared a holiday for all secondary schools and Anganwadi centres on Monday. District Information Officer Kshitij Verma said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to protect students from potential monsoon-related hazards.
