LUCKNOW, Sept. 6 -- A low-pressure area currently centered near northwestern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwestern Uttar Pradesh will likely bring heavy rainfall to the state. Over the next 48 hours, the low pressure area is expected to move in a north-northeasterly direction towards the central part of the state. "As a result of these developments, rainfall is expected to increase in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, with a likelihood of heavy rain over the next four days; while, in Western Uttar Pradesh, heavy rainfall is expected to subside after 48 hours, leading to a significant reduction in precipitation," said Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow. The forecast for Lucknow is partly cloudy sky with few spells of rain/thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperature will be around 32 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively. Overall, UP's rain deficit is pegged at minus 1% as the state recorded 620 mm of rainfall against a long-period average of 626.4 mm since June 1. Despite surplus rainfall in August, 24 UP districts face either deficit or large deficit rainfall. Only 34 districts have experienced normal rainfall (ranging from -19% to +19%). Only 17 UP districts have experienced excess or large excess rainfall this season. In the last 24 hours a Met observatory in district Shahjhanpur recorded 110.4 mm rainfall, Gunnaur in Sambhal 94 mm, Jalesar in Etah 81 mm, Ghanghata in Sant Kabir Nagar recorded 65 mm....
