MEERUT, Aug. 11 -- The hearing on a petition challenging the demolition order against 38 buildings of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur was deferred on Monday after advocates representing both sides could not reach the court because of route diversions. The matter was listed before Moradabad divisional commissioner and Rampur Development Authority (RDA) chairman Aunjaneya Kumar Singh. The court has now fixed August 13 as the date for the next hearing, said senior advocate Junaid Ejaz, representing the Jauhar Trust. The case relates to an order issued on July 15 by RDA vice-chairman and Rampur district magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi, declaring 38 of the university's 40 buildings illegal and directing their demolition. The university and its trust subsequently challenged the demolition order before the divisional commissioner's court. The court has already held two hearings concerning the maintainability of the challenge petition. At the previous hearing, the court directed both sides to submit their respective documentary evidence.
