VARANASI, Aug. 31 -- The Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) has withheld one annual salary increment of the headmistress of Primary School Purnakalan in Ghorawal area of Sonbhadra after students were seen carrying bricks for the repair of the school's damaged boundary wall. The action was taken against headmistress Mandavi Kumari for negligence in discharging her duties. The incident came to light after a video of students carrying bricks went viral on social media. The incident took place on August 27. The BSA had issued a notice to the headmistress, seeking an explanation. In her reply, Kumari said around 10 feet of the school's boundary wall had been demolished by miscreants. Two labourers and a mason had been engaged to repair it. She said the labourers were taking bricks from an additional classroom when some students started carrying the bricks on their own. She claimed that she immediately called the children back to the classroom after noticing them. However, the BSA found that the students were outside the classroom during teaching hours and were not being properly supervised. The officer termed this a lapse in the headmistress's duties and responsibilities.The BSA has therefore ordered that one annual salary increment of Kumari be withheld with immediate effect. The headmistress has also been directed to ensure strict supervision of students during school hours. The BSA warned that any recurrence could lead to strict departmental action....
