Rudrapur, Aug. 3 -- The education department has reverted the headmaster of a government primary school in Sitarganj block of Udham Singh Nagar district to the post of assistant teacher after an inquiry found him guilty of financial irregularities and embezzlement of government funds, officials said. According to the department, the action was taken against Sarvjit Singh, who was serving as the headmaster of Government Primary School, Ukroli. The inquiry found that he had allegedly misappropriated funds released under the Samagra Shiksha project and enrolled ghost students to siphon off government money. District education officer (Basic) Harendra Mishra, said that during an inspection of the school on May 5, 2025, several irregularities came to light. "We inspected the primary school and found financial irregularities. The materials that the headmaster had claimed to have purchased were not available in the school. Besides, ghost students had been enrolled to embezzle government funds," Mishra said. The inspection also revealed that the school had not commenced classes on time. Following the findings, the education department constituted an inquiry committee to investigate the alleged irregularities committed by the headmaster. The committee also found that funds meant for students' uniforms, bags and shoes had been withdrawn in the names of fictitious students. Based on the inquiry report, the headmaster was suspended and the department initiated disciplinary proceedings against him. The inquiry panel recommended recovery of the embezzled amount, officials said. Mishra said that although the department reinstated Singh's services on July 30, he was demoted from the post of headmaster to assistant teacher. "The department reinstated his service on July 30 but reverted him from headmaster to assistant teacher and deployed him to a government primary school in Bakhpur village in Sitarganj. The inquiry committee has also recommended recovery of Rs.1.89 lakh from him," Mishra said....
