LUCKNOW, July 27 -- A headless body of an unidentified man was found lying in a field in Sitapur district on Sunday morning, triggering panic among villagers and prompting police to launch a murder investigation. The victim's severed head was missing from the spot, leading investigators to suspect that the assailants may have removed it to conceal the deceased's identity. The body was found around 9 am in a field belonging to Suraj Bali in Deori Khurd village under Sandana police station limits. Villagers heading to the fields noticed the body and, on approaching it, found that the neck had been severed and the head was missing. They immediately alerted the police. Sandana SHO Man Singh Pal reached the spot with a police team and cordoned off the area. A thorough search of the adjoining fields and surrounding area was launched to trace the missing head, but it had not been recovered till the filing of this report. Given the nature of the crime, a forensic team was called to examine the scene. The experts collected scientific evidence and documented the crime scene to assist the investigation. Police said prima facie the case appears to be one of murder.
