Lucknow, May 26 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Monday reprimanded lawyers while hearing a petition regarding the removal of illegal encroachments around the civil court premises in the state capital's Qaiserbagh area. The court reserved its order in the matter. During the hearing, the division bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Justice Rajeev Bharti observed that videos of lawyers distributing 'lathis' had been seen.The court asked the lawyers who appeared, "Can the administration be prevented from doing its rightful work by distributing lathis?" The bench remarked that criminal contempt proceedings would be considered in compliance with Supreme Court guidelines. The court also took cognizance of the week-long strike at the civil court. On the high court's orders, the municipal corporation began removing illegal chambers around the Qaiserbagh civil court premises on May 17 morning. The high court had ordered the demolition of illegal chambers built over the drain around the registration office. It was alleged that the municipal corporation team arrived at the last minute to take action, leading to protests from lawyers and stone-pelting. The police allegedly resorted to a lathi-charge....
