HC hauls up Prayagraj civic bosses
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 19 -- The Allahabad high court on Tuesday took suo motu cognisance of the severe waterlogging in Prayagraj, as a result of a heavy downpour, noting that the civic failure has caused delay in judges reaching court.
The court has directed the DM and the municipal commissioner of Prayagraj to appear in court and explain "why measures were not taken in advance to ensure that the city, particularly the low-lying areas, do not get waterlogged" during the rainy season.
The bench comprising justice Ajit Kumar and justice Garima Prashad initiated the suo moto proceedings after observing that the city had become 'waterlogged due to incessant rain', causing difficulties to judges in reaching court.
The court has also asked the secretary of urban development and planning to file a personal affidavit by August 20, clarifying the plans approved for ensuring that the city does not get waterlogged due to incessant rain.
The high court also directed the advocate general of UP, Ajai Kumar Mishra, and the additional advocate general, MC Chaturvedi, to provide assistance in the matter.
The registrar (compliance) was ordered to intimate all concerned authorities on Tuesday itself....
