HC flags delay in appointment
Dehradun, March 20 -- Uttarakhand high court has expressed strong displeasure over the continued delay in the appointment of the Lokayukta in the hill state, despite repeated directions and assurances by the government.
Hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Haldwan-based Ravi Shankar Joshi on Wednesday, the division bench comprising chief justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and justice Subhash Upadhyay noted that the statutory mandate for appointing a Lokayukta was still not being followed.
"It is pertinent to note here that State in its affidavit dated 25.06.2025 stated that the process of appointment of Lokayukta is on verge of completion; however, so far the process has not been completed," the court said in its order.
During the latest hearing, the state's counsel sought additional time to apprise the court of the current status of the selection process. While granting two weeks' time, the bench recorded its displeasure over the delay.
"Learned State Counsel prays for further time to apprise the Court of the present status of the selection process. While recording our displeasure, we grant two weeks' further time to the State Counsel to apprise the Court of the present status," it added....
