HC asks officials to suggest solutions
LUCKNOW, April 20 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has directed the DCP (Traffic) and the DCP (East), Lucknow, besides a gazetted officer of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation to appear before it on May 1 in the matter of traffic congestion in the city, especially from Polytechnic to Kisan Path.
"Before appearing, the Officers aforesaid shall conduct an inspection of the entire route/area, as mentioned in the writ petition and hereinabove, to ascertain the problem and what are the solutions and then suggest solutions, if any, to the Court," the court directed.
A division bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Manjive Shukla passed the order on April 16 in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by a local lawyer who sought directives for proper solution to the traffic problem in the larger public interest.
The court said: "... as, for the past several years, the problem of traffic congestion and other related problems pertaining to the stretch of road right from Polytechnic to the Kisan Path, Lucknow, is causing immense problem to the general public and in spite of the fact that the matter has been engaging the attention of the court in several PILs, as of now, there does not appear to be a suitable solution found by the concerned authorities."
The court directed to connect this PIL along with another similar matter and list on May 1 for next hearing....
