hc: remove fake and derogatory content against former mla jain
Jaipur, April 19 -- The Rajasthan high court has ordered authorities and major social media platforms to remove and permanently delete fake photographs, fabricated videos, and other derogatory material targeting former MLA Mewa Ram Jain.
Justice Farjand Ali issued the directive while allowing a criminal writ petition filed by Jain, a seasoned politician who alleged persistent inaction by authorities in tackling deeply objectionable online content. A former legislator from Barmer, Jain has also served as president of the Barmer municipal board and sarpanch of Baleba gram panchayat.
He claimed political opponents deliberately fabricated a defamatory video by manipulating his photograph, which then spread rapidly and widely across various social media platforms despite his repe- ated complaints to law enforcement.
The court underscored that such unchecked circulation inflicts serious, lasting harm on individuals' reputations and personal lives.
It observed that "the dissemination of private and intimate content without consent is not merely a legal wrong but a profound invasion of dignity with cascading and irreversible consequences."...
