PRAYAGRAJ, May 15 -- Uttar Pradesh governor and chancellor of state universities Anandiben Patel chaired a review meeting and presentation of government-run and government-aided colleges affiliated to Prof Rajendra Singh (Rajju Bhaiya) University (PRSU), Prayagraj, on Thursday at Jan Bhawan, Lucknow. During the meeting, the governor expressed serious concern over the protection, education and rehabilitation of girl students falling under the ambit of the POCSO Act. She directed that every college must constitute a dedicated committee to ensure the safety, guidance and support of female students. The committee, she said, should ensure that no student faces any form of difficulty or harassment on campus. Emphasising the importance of multi-skilled and vocational education, the governor said teachers should possess knowledge beyond their respective subjects, while students should also be trained to work effectively across multiple fields. She further stressed that girl students residing in colleges and hostels must be provided not only academic education but also skill-based and employment-oriented training. She suggested that practical life skills and vocational training for girl students should include cooking, sewing, embroidery, computer skills, home management, and other employment-oriented courses to promote self-reliance. The governor also directed that outside food be completely banned in hostels. She strongly emphasised the need to promote a library culture and instructed that students be encouraged to write brief summaries of books they read, followed by organised speeches, discussions, and talks based on them.
