Guv calls for prioritising quality edu
Jaipur, June 8 -- Rajasthan Governor and Chancellor Haribhau Bagde on Sunday said providing quality education should be the highest priority of educational institutions and called for concerted efforts to boost students' intellectual abilities while fostering values such as morality and tolerance.
Addressing the 23rd foundation day of Maharaja Ganga Singh University, he urged universities to promote water-conservation awareness and to highlight Rajasthan's traditional environmental heritage.
Bagde said universities serve as beacons of knowledge and play a crucial role in spreading learning throughout society. He urged all stakeholders to work together to make higher-education institutions centres of excellence.
Referring to environmental conservation, Bagde noted Bikaner's long tradition of protecting the khejri tree and said laws against cutting the tree existed during the reign of Maharaja Ganga Singh.
He said the state government had enacted legislation for khejri conservation and that more than 300 khejri trees were planted on the campus of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University last year.
Efforts are under way to develop a dedicated khejri park to raise awareness about the tree, often called the "Kalpavriksha of the desert," he added....
