VARANASI, May 15 -- Violent storm in Mirzapur not only hit normal life and damaged property across the district on Wednesday, it also forced a groom to use a bike instead of a car to reach his wedding destination after uprooted trees blocked his path. The disruption compelled the groom to reach the marriage venue Pachegda village in Mirzapur district at around 1am on Thursday, four hours late than the scheduled time 9pm on Wednesday. On Wednesday evening, the wedding procession of Gorakh Kanojia, a resident of Ekouna village in Shahabganj area of Chandauli district started for Pachegda village in Adalhat area of Mirzapur where his marriage was to be solemnized with Kajal-daughter of Mahendra Kanojia. The wedding procession departed from Ekouna village for Pachegda village with great pomp and festivity. The groom traveled by car, while the guests set out cheerfully using various other modes of transport. However, a storm struck while they were en route. Braving inclement weather, the wedding guests and the bridegroom anyhow reached Shrutihar bridge around 1.5km before Pachegda village via the Chakia-Ahraura, Adalhat, and Pathraura Bridge-Imiliyachatti route. The groom's vehicle got stuck near the Shrutihaar Bridge, where the road was completely blocked by a fallen tree. Meanwhile, as the wedding procession failed to arrive, the anxiety of the bride's family members began to mount. Someone informed them that the guests-including the bridegroom-were stranded near Shrutihaar due to a fallen tree. Villagers further informed that trees had fallen across the road leading to Pachegda at several different locations. Upon learning of the situation, the villagers arrived and somehow managed to clear a path for a motorcycle. Seating the bridegroom on it, they brought him to the village.
