Govt to set up five advanced forensic labs
LUCKNOW, March 20 -- In a major push to modernise crime investigation, the UP government has decided to set up five advanced laboratories at the UP State Institute of Forensic Sciences (UPSIFS), said senior government officials in a press note shared by the CM media cell here on Thursday.
The officials said the proposed facilities-Quantum Computing Lab, Challenged Audio-Video Lab, 3-D Printing Lab, SCADA Lab for IT/OT security, and a Digital Forensic Lab-are aimed at strengthening evidence analysis, improving investigative precision, and accelerating case disposal.
The new labs will not only train UPSIFS students in advanced investigative techniques but also equip UP Police personnel to handle increasingly sophisticated criminal methods.
UPSIFS director Dr GK Goswami said preparations are underway to operationalise the labs.
The Quantum Computing Lab will support faster and more accurate analysis of complex datasets particularly useful in cybercrime cases. The Challenged Audio-Video Lab will help enhance poor-quality recordings, often crucial in criminal trials.
The 3-D Printing Lab will enable reconstruction of crime scenes. The SCADA Lab will focus on IT and operational technology security. Meanwhile, the Digital Forensic Lab will bolster the ability to retrieve and analyse data from electronic devices....
